The final round of the championship was an 80 minute endurance at Silverstone on a cold evening. Sitting in 4th in the table I needed a good result in order to keep it. with black306mi not taking part in the final race, I was only really worried about B_Rated.

I knew I was going to struggle this week – a set track combined with little practice meant it was always going to be a big ask. The two sprints would be all about staying on track, finishing and collecting points. I didn’t get a lot of opportunity to practice during the week – starting a new job meant I was exhausted in the evenings. I did manage to get some laps in on Friday morning and over lunch and was able to lap around 2:16 without making too many mistakes.

For some reason, Imola isn’t a circuit I do well at (even by my standards!) and no matter how much I enjoy driving it I always seem to get caught in other peoples accidents, hit or make a silly mistake and it’s all over. After a couple of practice races during the week against both the AI and some real opponents I knew I had some consistency and if I could hold it together I’d be able to finish in the top 10.

The 9th round of the championship brought us to California and the legendary Laguna Seca circuit. Sadly, there wasn’t a lot of sunshine and the race would be run at dusk, finishing in the dark. It was also going to be a single 80 minute endurance rather than a pair of sprints.

After a couple of good results as Suzuka last week I was keen to start a run of good results. With only 2pt seperating black306mi and I in the league I really needed to beat him. I didn’t get as much practice in as I would have liked and was averaging lap times in the mid 1:46 bracket by the time the race started. I’d done a race distance the previous night and concentrated on fuel, tire pressures and consistency.

The good news is that my recordings for this race worked… and despite the wet I actually had a good couple of races too. Unlike the previous weeks long race, this week we’d be doing 2 30 minute sprints, each with its own practice and qualifying sessions.

Mount Panorama has always been one of my favourite circuits – it looks really impressive, with two long straights up and down the mountain and then the fast and technical section at the top. There’s almost no error for margin and when it bites, it bites hard. An 80 minute endurance race was always going to be a big ask, even if it was in the daylight and after the ESR race at the same track.

Friday the 5th saw the delayed round 4 of the MRC league arrive at Zolder for 2 30 minute sprints. Although the track was dry it was very cloudy and cold and after a tough day at work it was going to be 2hrs hard work with all the practice and qualifying sessions.

After the 80 minute endurance race that was round 2, the following week saw round 3 still at Spa but this time for 2 30 minute sprints in the wet. With another 50 minute race at Spa coming up with the ESR crew I’d done a lot of mileage at the track over the last 2 weeks. While I wasn’t especially confident of a strong result I didn’t think I’d make a fool of myself either. After a mid week wobble when I nearly didn’t take part I set aside a couple of evenings for some wet practice and found that I wasn’t as bad as I’d feared.
